TRIBAL HEALTHCARE NOW!

Hello, cousin! My name is Brandon Cervantes.

I currently serve our tribal government as an IT support specialist. I am a devoted husband, a guardian to my autistic younger brother, and a proud member of the Williams family. I am running for Tribal Council to establish efficient tribal healthcare and to foster the continued economic growth of all Wilton Rancheria investments.

Ensuring comprehensive healthcare for all citizens is my primary objective. By providing quality insurance, we can support our elders in a healthy retirement, address mental health challenges, and assist children and parents throughout their formative years.

I recognize the costs involved, which is why I pledge to pursue additional revenue streams and support our existing ones. This will ensure the sustainability of our economic benefits while delivering the vital social programs that keep our community healthy.

Take care, and thanks for reading!

Wilton Rancheria members deserve high quality healthcare. Here’s why:

Our Native tribe has struggled since our forced assimilation into American life. We have been persecuted by over-policing in our neighborhoods, left to be trafficked, and plainly ignored by the state when we asked for help. Only upon recognition did we start to see the government take responsibility for directly altering all of our families by terminating our rancheria.

Now that we are starting to achieve stability and see prosperity, I challenge each and every candidate this election cycle to pledge to support some form of Tribal-provided healthcare.

We must use our capital to invest in our population in more ways than just financially. By investing in the health outcomes of each family member of the Wilton Rancheria, we by extension provide a stability that IHS, Medi-Cal, and Medicare have yet to achieve.

Three years post-Sky River, I ask you to make the compassionate choice to elect me to Tribal Council, so we can prioritize the effort of Tribal Healthcare and ensure that if we are to spend this amount of money, that we do so efficiently and with the input of the General Council. We must make this program efficient to ensure it's around for a long time, but we must also not fear the investment of further resources if it means we support our most vulnerable citizens.

  • Our Children deserve better doctors then MediCal, MediCare, or IHS can provide.

We need to ensure their access to proper dental care, vision care, and mental health services to combat the harms of social media, vaping, drug and alcohol abuse, or  untreated ADHD and Autism. Every Wilton Rancheria child should have a great shot at living a happy, healthy life. By enrolling our children in quality healthcare, we lower the barrier to entry for a proper health journey and fulfill a generational ask.

  • The Parents of this tribe make up the backbone of the General Council and they deserve the peace of mind that comes with your entire family having health care.

By providing healthcare, dental, and vision we offer these folks a opportunity to change jobs. We also provide peace of mind that you if a medical emergency were to occur, you don’t have a radical bill to pay.

  • Our Elders are not getting any younger, and we should provide them quality healthcare that they deserve. I see plenty of our brothers and sister with dental issues or who have imperfect eyeglass prescription that must impact their life. Lets provide them the means to live their fullest life for as long as we can.

  • We own other ventures that generate income and have spent a lot of money in donations to the Sacramento community and beyond.

If we can buy a soccer team and a stadium, we can buy you healthcare. Plain and simple.

Platform

  • We need to continue our economic development to take better care of our community and implement proper social programs. I pledge to not stop progress and continue our economic growth

  • General Council Standing Committees are permanent, ongoing sub-groups established by the tribal council to oversee specific subject areas or recurring administrative functions.

I believe that any policy that creates new benefits for the General Council should have a committee to ensure a proper rollout, facilitate great member experiences, and serve as a collaborative space between the Government and the General Council. Let's address our government transparency and invite our citizens to participate in our government.

  • We need a secure place to read about, discuss, and create a community for ourselves. In the modern era, that place is Facebook and Instagram.

Let’s make a members website and phone app that takes our tribal info out of the public domain, and onto our sovereign servers.

  • We need more information on what we are plans are more than once a year. We need to increase thein the community. I believe we need to increase communication from our government to our people, however we don’t have a secure platform to send it electronically.

I propose we create a better, more easily accessible website so tribal member can access tribal government resolutions and securely discuss them, enhancing and enriching our democracy.

  • We should invest in better data security. As a tribal nation affiliated with a casino, we are high-value targets in the gaming industry.

I want elected officials who understand the threats to our nation's economic engine, and I pledge to continue monitoring the IT industry to ensure we invest enough to defend against cybersecurity threats.

  • Other Tribes throughout Northern California enjoy different, unique benefits just for being a member. We should follow that trend and hold community meetings to gather ideas for investments that enhance our General Council’s lives.

    After we implement tribal healthcare!

  • Our cousins are targeted online and in-person for financial scams, and we need to prepare the population to stay away from phishing, spams, and scams. This takes time and effort to develop accessible training, something I do in my current capacity working for Wilton.

Let’s create a community learning series that is recorded, so our members have the information to defend themselves in the age of AI threats.
